BOX OFFICE: 'Race 2' Speeds Through It's First Week
'Race 2' directed Abbas-Mustan has maintained its firm lead at the Box Office over its first week. The film, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and others, had taken an incredible flying start in the opening weekend, but has slowed down since.
As we had reported, day 1 saw a good box office figure of Rs 15 crore) net. This headstart was maintained over its second day (26th January being Republic Day), with an astounding Rs 20.5 crore) net. Day 3 (Sunday) was fair with collections of Rs 15.5 crore) net. Monday and Tuesday saw the reins slip, where 'Race 2' managed only Rs 6.8 crore) net and Rs (6.2 crore) respectively. On Wednesday and Thursday, the film further slipped in collections with Rs (5.6 crore) net and Rs (5 crore) net respectively. But 'Race 2' is still the clear winner at the ticketing windows, since other new releases like 'Mai', 'David' and the Hollywood imports aren't doing big business at the box office. Even Kamal Haasan's ambitious and controversial film, 'Vishwaroopam' has seen a dull start at the box office on its opening day. The Priyanka Chopra- Govinda starrer 'Deewana Main Deewana' has proved to be a total washout. 'Race 2' has managed to rake in Rs 742 million (74.2 crore) net over its first week.
